This group of color photographs made in the 1990s celebrates Black cowboy culture, challenges the whitewashed myth of the all-American cowboy and deconstructs ideas of Black identity. Tarver’s images offer testimony to the lived experiences of a thriving community, offering insightful glimpses into the lives of Black people embodying their Western cultural heritage.

The exhibition will be on view September 11 – November 14, 2026.

Free and open to the public.
